Application Information

APPLICATION METHOD:

Roll entire pool or tank and repairs, a 3/8" short nap. Enamel type or phonemic core roller may be used. Mix unit with an electric mixer & ½ unit per person roll applied. Research found recently any material sprayed becomes porous.

TEMPERATURE REQUIREMENTS:

For optimum application, handling and performance, the material and surface shall be between 50° to 90° F.  For application, handling and performance below 50°F., contact UltraGaurd Coatings technical support services for recommendations and instructions. The substrate shall be dry and the temperature should be at least 5° F. above the dew point.

STORAGE TEMPERATURE:

Minimum 40° F. and maximum 90° F.

SHELF LIFE:

Six (6) months when stored at recommended temperatures.

MIXING:

Add the hardener into the resin and then mix the combined compound at approx 350 rpm for 3 to 4 minutes.

HANDLING:

Store at moderate temperature (65°- 85° F. prior to mixing).

SURFACE PREPARATION:

All surfaces shall be clean and dry, free of dust, dirt, oil or any other foreign matter. Steel surfaces shall be abrasive blasted to SSPC SP-5, or NACE #1 "white metal" finish with a minimum 2.5 mil surface profile (surface etching). Concrete surfaces shall be abrasive blasted (brush-off blast), mechanically abraded or etched with acid and neutralized. All protrusions such as mortar spatter and fins shall be removed by grinding.  Repair cracks by epoxy injection or by routing and sealing. Holes, spills, and cracks shall be filled with recommended filler. Hollows shall be filled with fiber crete for concrete pools. For additional information regarding surface preparation specifications and techniques, please contact our technical services department.

Primer alone 4200-PSI adhesion. Our top coat contains microbands to stop bacterial build up. We are the only coating for pools, which contains this formula.

SURFACE PREPARATION:

Concrete – acid etch and neutralize or pressure wash depending on severity of surface degradation.       Repair and restore concrete as necessary. Plaster surfaces will require a sealer/primer for reconditioning prior to application of the topcoat. Under-cut fixtures and all tiles. Fill hollows with fiber crete or N.A.P. 1800.

Fiberglass – grind or abrade with a coarse grain, emery-grinding disc to achieve an adequate surface profile or anchor pattern. Fill blisters and cracks with chopped fiberglass and fiberglass mat. Or UltraGuard crack filler.

RECOMMENDED THICKNESS:

20 - 40 Mils on Fiberglass, 50-60 Mils on concrete.

COLORS:

Sky Blue/Ocean Blue/Gray and Custom Colors.

COVERAGE (actual):

Approximately 350 square feet/unit.

DRYING TIME:

Tack free – 2 to 4 hours at 77° F.
To re-coat – 4 to 6 hours at 77° F.

CURING TIME:

24 hours at 77° F. and/or until a minimum Barcol Hardness of 65 is obtained.

Pool Preparation and Coating Application

1. In order to determine elevation of water table, dig hole along side of pool to approximately one (1) foot below lowest pool depth or until
    water is apparent.

2. Open bottom drain or well point pool to relieve pressure.

3. Acid bath and pressure wash pool.

4. Under-cut tile and fixtures.

5. Fill cracks and hollows with fiber crete or N.A.P. 1800.

6. Roll coat of Primer.

7. Roll on primer with 18 oz. Mat; grind seams and burs after drying.

8. Roll top coat; first coat for visual look; let dry and trowel.

9. Roll final coat at 20 mils.; let dry and replace fixtures and install tile (if applicable).

10. Fill with clean, uncontaminated water after 24 hours.
